Chlorophytum Comosum (Spring Fever), Emy Frentz Gallery, Mankato, 2016.

Coming especially welcomed in Minnesota where Spring Fever is at its worst in the weeks directly preceding the equinox, spring is most often defined as a season for rebirth and new life. It is this desire for the return of life—the demonstration of the power of natural cycles—that is presented in this work. Sourced from only ten parent plants, the 523 spider plants (chlorophytum comosum) in attendance make clear their ability to proliferate—to both thrive and multiply. Moreover, the silhouettes are hand-traced and multiplied from the very plants found here. Commonly referred to as the easiest houseplant to tend, spider plants will grow nearly anywhere. Given just a meager amount of sunlight and water sufficient enough to retain moisture, the plant is suited to survive in most any environment where people do.
