Line and color. Plants and ordinary objects. These instincts motivate my work.

The spider plant (chlorophytum comosum) is prolific. It easily thrives and multiplies with minimal care. The repeated capture of its silhouette presents and preserves this characteristic on paper. Hyper-realistic color and linear, graphic pattern replace realistic detail to assert the silhouette’s significance in the subject’s identification. Indefinitely repeating the process and displaying the drawings en masse alongside the very plants whose shadows made them exemplifies both natural cycles and the creative impulse. Plants, works on paper, and gallery alike transcend their modest origins, uniting to create an immersive environment to enjoy, contemplate, and interact with the work. A plant and its shadow reflect that, however banal, there is great value in the mundane items or experiences that occupy daily existence.

Drawing, sewing, gardening, and making the most of what you can find around the house—everything integral to the work has been passed on to me by my mother. So has nurturing life in all its forms and spreading positivity. We populate the world with the products of our efforts; I hope to plant a positive experience for all who engage with my work.
